Three videos below were taken while I was in the area the Passchendaele 100 Commemorations July/August 2019. They show the North, Centre and South area of 45th Btn D Company Trench at the time 9-13 October 1917. Since my first visit in 2011 I have remastered the co-ordinates from the Battalion Diaries and, though still very very close to what I had back in 2011, I believe they are now fully accurate.

I visited the Ypres area in 2011 to trace Spencer’s final days. He died on 13 October 1917 at The first Battle of Passchendaele, in or very near his D Coy support trench. After this page there is little more I can do to research Spencer’s Army career, though it would be nice to have a picture of him. I will endeavour to make contact with his family, presumably still in Australia. Clearly he was a worthy soldier who did his duty, and he has my unending respect for that.
